In Mourning

Hello fellow Celiacs and friends!
08/10/2010

This is officially my first post to my new blog. I was diagnosed Celiac on July 21, 2010. I was also told that I'm lactose intolerant, and can't have many fruits and vegetables that I love. One thing that I don't understand is that I'm also not supposed to have yeast. Who's sensitive to yeast!? Apparently I am and also to many other foods.

Since that day, I've been floating through life thinking that I have plenty of time to heal my stomach and insides. I've been trying really hard to stay away from the gluten but still occasionally consuming other foods I'm sensitive to. Now, I've had these horrible symptoms of Celiac for years. I need to wake up, stop mourning food, and get healthy!

At my last appointment with the holistic doctor, they told me that I need to start taking all of these vitamins ( 7 different ones to be exact ) and I don't like it. I've actually only bought one of the seven because I hate taking pills. I hate medicine. I feel most of us are equipped to heal our bodies ourselves. Now that I know my diagnosis I think I'm going to try it my way. Every website I read about Celiac doesn't talk about taking a bunch of vitamins. It just expresses the need for diet change.

So today I'm going to try my hardest to not consume ANYTHING bad for me. I'm also going to enjoy the sunshine!

  1. What exactly is Celiac disease? I agree with you that if you can do things to help and heal with diet changes it's better than taking so many pills. What CAN'T you eat? Maybe other people (like myself) could help you come up with ideas of yummy stuff you CAN have and enjoy. :) Good luck!

  2. Celiac disease is where you have to cut out all the gluten. Gluten is a protein found in grains and breads. People who have Celiac, lack the enzyme to digest gluten. When you don't have that enzyme, the gluten is like poison to you. Some processed foods contain gluten too. I really need to check every nutrition label now.

I haven't officially gone grocery shopping since I was diagnosed. I've just bought a few things here and there. I'm sure that first trip to the grocery store is going to take hours.
